Welsh Harlequin Duck
The Welsh Harlequin is a stunning, gentle, and highly productive heritage duck breed known for its beautiful plumage and exceptional egg-laying ability. Developed in Wales, this breed is admired for its elegant, harlequin-patterned feathers, calm demeanor, and remarkable consistency as a layer.
Welsh Harlequin hens are top-tier egg producers, laying 220–300+ large white or tinted eggs per year, making them one of the best dual-purpose duck breeds available. They are alert yet friendly, easy to handle, and excellent foragers that thrive in free-range environments while still adapting well to backyard pens.
One of the most fascinating traits of the Welsh Harlequin is its natural autosexing ability—many ducklings can be sexed at hatch based on bill color—making it a great choice for keepers wanting pullets. Their beautiful plumage varies from gold to silver tones and features intricate patterning that makes them a standout in any flock.
