Rouen Duck
The Rouen Duck is a beautiful, calm, and heavy-bodied heritage breed known for its classic Mallard-like coloring and gentle temperament. With their deep green heads, rich chestnut chests, and striking blue wing speculum, Rouens are one of the most attractive and traditional duck breeds for backyard keepers and small farms.
Rouens are appreciated not only for their beauty but also for their steady production and excellent meat quality. Hens typically lay 120–180 large white or tinted eggs per year. While not as prolific as lightweight laying breeds, their dual-purpose qualities make them a well-rounded addition to homestead flocks.
This breed is exceptionally calm and friendly, making them ideal for families and peaceful mixed flocks. Heavier than Mallards, Rouens do not fly and prefer leisurely grazing, dabbling, and foraging. They thrive in free-range environments but also adapt well to secure pens and backyard ponds.
