New Hampshire Red
The New Hampshire Red is a classic American heritage breed known for its excellent production, fast maturity, and calm, reliable temperament. Developed in New England as an improvement upon the Rhode Island Red, the New Hampshire is valued for its hardiness, early laying ability, and beautiful rich chestnut-red plumage.
New Hampshire hens are dependable layers, producing 180–220 large brown eggs per year, often beginning earlier than many other heritage breeds. They are also well-regarded as a dual-purpose bird thanks to their sturdy build and efficient growth. Their calm, friendly nature makes them ideal for beginners, families, and mixed flocks.
This breed thrives in a wide range of climates and performs well in both free-range and coop environments. Their adaptability, productivity, and easygoing personality make the New Hampshire Red a long-time favorite for homesteads and backyard flocks alike.
