Welsummer
The Welsummer is a beautiful Dutch heritage breed famous for laying some of the most attractive eggs in the chicken world. Their rich, terracotta-colored eggs often come with dark speckles, making every egg basket look like a work of art. Known for their charm, intelligence, and natural foraging ability, Welsummers are a favorite among backyard chicken keepers.
Welsummer hens typically lay 160–200 large dark brown eggs per year. They are alert, active birds that thrive in free-range environments, though they adapt well to coop life with proper enrichment. Their feathering features warm red, black, and gold tones, giving them a classic, rustic appearance.
Friendly but independent, Welsummers do well in mixed flocks and are great for keepers who appreciate both beauty and functionality. They handle a variety of climates and are known for their strong, hardy nature.
