Cayuga Duck
The Cayuga Duck is one of the most striking and unique duck breeds, known for its stunning iridescent black plumage that shimmers green and blue in the sunlight. This rare American heritage breed is admired for its beauty, calm temperament, and reliable egg-laying ability, making it a favorite among backyard keepers and small farms.
Cayugas are excellent layers, producing 100–150 large black, charcoal gray, or light-tinted eggs annually. Early in the season, Cayuga eggs often appear jet black, gradually lightening to gray, blueish, or white as the season progresses—creating one of the most visually interesting egg baskets you can have.
These ducks are gentle, quiet, and easy to manage, making them well-suited for families and mixed flocks. They are hardy in cold climates, adapt well to various environments, and are strong foragers that enjoy both free-range and pond settings.
