Bourbon Red Heritage Turkey
The Bourbon Red Heritage Turkey is one of the most popular and beautiful heritage turkey breeds, loved for its rich chestnut-red plumage, excellent flavor, and gentle temperament. Originating in Kentucky in the late 1800s, this breed is treasured by homesteaders, small farms, and heritage poultry enthusiasts for both its striking appearance and superior meat quality.
Bourbon Reds are known for their exceptional foraging ability, hardy constitution, and natural vigor. As a true heritage breed, they grow at a natural pace, developing strong frames, long lifespans, and outstanding overall health. Their meat is considered some of the finest among heritage turkeys, prized for its rich flavor and traditional texture.
Hens lay small to medium cream-colored eggs, often with speckling, and tend to be attentive mothers. Bourbon Reds thrive in free-range environments where they can roam, graze, and express natural behaviors—ideal for sustainable or pasture-based operations.
