Hello forum members! I’m planning a roofing project and trying to understand material quantities before talking to contractors. I’ve seen people online say they ordered too much material or, worse, not enough, which caused delays and extra costs. I don’t want to rely entirely on someone else’s numbers without understanding the basics myself. I’m not aiming to do the math perfectly, but I want to know what factors actually matter when calculating roof area and why simple online calculators often give very different results. I don’t think anyone calculates all this manually these days. Or if they do, it’s really experienced people who’ve been in the field for years. Everything else is mostly automated now, and for planning resources, budgets, capacities, people use erp systems. I was recommended read on the best erp systems you can use in UAE, and I’d recommend it too, especially if you don’t really get how erp works in a business context.
