Visual Anatomy

Visual Anatomy is an interactive reference, and education tool for medical workers, students and even for anyone who does not have any medical background knowledge. It is one of the most popular anatomy apps in all major appstores!

Visual Anatomy

Parents need to know that Visual Anatomy is a science resource that teaches kids about human anatomy and physiology. Kids tap on specific areas of body diagrams to learn names and functions of body parts, and they can rotate some diagrams for a 3-D view. The diagrams are colorful, detailed, and fairly realistic. Quizzes are available to assess learning, and there's a list of Gray's Anatomy images for easy reference. As is the case with most anatomy references, some diagrams include reproductive structures.

VISUAL ANATOMY is a content-rich resource for teaching kids about anatomy. The diagrams are realistic, and the tappable features make it easy to learn about the structure and function of the human body. The descriptions of the features appear at the bottom or to the right of the page, keeping the diagrams uncluttered. There also are more than 1,000 Gray's Anatomy images, which can be a valuable study aid for medical students. The quizzes could use some grammatical corrections, but overall, the app is a handy reference tool and contains a tremendous amount of content.

This is a 3D Anatomy app that will engage students deeply. The app goes through every single part of the body with over 1247 high resolution images and 300 feature points detailing the parts of the anatomy. At the end of the app there is also a quiz so that students can test their knowledge. The app is excellent for revision. The content goes further than might be required for Biology but it is still interesting, relevant and very useful for school usage.

Edwin F. Bartholomew received his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and his M.S. from the University of Hawaii. Mr. Bartholomew has taught human anatomy and physiology at both the secondary and undergraduate levels and a wide variety of other science courses (from botany to zoology) at Maui Community College (now the University of Hawaii Maui College) and at historic Lahainaluna High School, the oldest high school west of the Rockies. He is a coauthor of Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, Visual Anatomy & Physiology, Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Visual Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Structure and Function of the Human Body, and The Human Body in Health and Disease (all published by Pearson). Mr. Bartholomew is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the National Association of Biology Teachers, the National Science Teachers Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Petti is a professor at San Diego Miramar College, and teaches courses in human anatomy and physiology, human dissection, and health education. He is President Emeritus of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and holds a doctorate from the University of San Diego. As a dual U.S./Italian citizen he also teaches courses in Italy that focus on the genesis of anatomy as a science and its influence on the Renaissance masters, a story unique to the Italian peninsula. His students range from anatomy professors pursuing continuing education, to undergraduates in study abroad programs. Dr. Petti is often invited to speak about the connection between art and anatomy in medieval and Renaissance Italy at museums, conferences and universities. The Italian government has invited him to speak at their Cultural Institutes in Los Angeles and New York City, and the University of Palermo in Sicily included him in a seminar series celebrating its 210th anniversary.

This is an interactive visual guide for learning and understanding canine (dog) anatomy, which enables the user to get a clear three dimensional understanding of all muscles, bones and organs. It is most useful for veterinarians who need more visual information than just 2 dimensional images and charts. Instead of skipping between pages and trying to get a clear understanding of the relations between all muscles, bones and organs (in your mind), this app offers an easier way to quickly get a feel for canine anatomy.

To grow is to teach. In that spirit this article aims to teach best practice for visualizations and at the same time to highlight some of the harvest we could reap in our lab. Following figures recently published in one of our manuscripts, we demonstrate how creativity in figure making goes hand in hand with storytelling, a deepened understanding of the scientific work and an increase in lateral thinking inside the research avenue. We hope it will help to promote scientific visualizations as a useful, even if sometimes harsh, mirror to give new angles to the laboratory work.
